This article provides an explanation for the naming of prominent landmarks in NW Saskatchewan and NE Alberta including Turtle Lake

In 1984 the rm of Mervin, the RM of Parkdale and the RM of Greenstreet comissioned this study to assist in the planning for future development on or around Turtle Lake Saskatchewan.

A nearly forgotten fire in 1919 burned much of the boreal forest in NE Alberta and NW Saskatchewan including much of the forest north of Turtle Lake.
